Vancouver Island’s history features the original First Peoples, who chose this region for their ancestral homes, and the European and Asian immigrants who crossed an ocean to build a better life for their families. Coal mining, fishing, and logging had to find a balance with the ways of the First People to form an essential respect for culture within each of the communities, making it possible for everyone to live, love, and work together peacefully and enjoy all the Island has to offer.
