Storm Riders: Hello Nature Adventure Tours
The Storm Rider series aims to celebrate the strength of our industry while highlighting some of the many ways businesses have overcome the challenges resulting from COVID-19. We are proud to showcase how the following businesses have adapted while celebrating the people who are at the heart of what we do. In this post, we hear from Kevin Bradshaw of Hello Nature Adventure Tours in Ucluelet.
Why do you do what you do?
I originally got into guiding over 20 years ago to disconnect from my life in the city and to reconnect with nature. I explored the area and discovered many secrets, learned the history, and connected with the culture both past and present. Over the years I realized that I now connect with the area through the eyes of my guests, my friends and my family. I am always waiting to see them have those moments of wow, peace and connection.
What is your hope for the future of our region?
This season we chose to scale back our business and not to operate our full menu of trips in the interest of keeping our community, staff, and families safe. We look forward to returning to a new normal for next season and being able to offer day and multi-day kayaking excursions to the Broken Group Islands and Clayoquot Sound. We have also created a few new unique options including a new glamping option and a private campsite outside the Broken Group Islands. This will allow us to explore the Broken Group Islands daily and sleep under the stars.
In your own words, please share “Travel matters because … “
Our small business is locally owned, community-focused, and strives to have a positive impact on our environment. This year especially has been about making decisions on how to connect with our community, build partnerships and supporting our staff. Hands down our favour night of the week were youth night when we got to explore the harbour with 10 to 14 local youth.

The spark to own/work in this business must motivate you each day. – what are some of your past experiences that have contributed to this spark?
Every day we spend kayaking or hiking with our guests we are helping to create a memory that will stay for life, a connection and help promote environmental stewardship.
