Since 2006, Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery has been a hub for traditional and contemporary Northwest Coast Indigenous Artwork and Jewelry. The gallery features over 100 artists from Haida, Kwakwaka’wakw, Coast Salish, and West Coast descent, offering a diverse range of native masks, paddles, argillite carvings, sculptures, prints, silver and gold jewelry pieces, including rings, bracelets, and pendants. It provides a unique opportunity to explore the art and cultures of the Northwest Coast First Nations while discovering one-of-a-kind works of art. The gallery is housed in a beautifully curated space resembling an indigenous longhouse, creating an immersive experience for art enthusiasts and collectors. Visitors can explore authentic creations such as masks, carvings, cedar sculptures, indigenous prints, and a variety of jewelry in gold, silver, wood, and argillite. Set in a serene location on a country road surrounded by farms with picturesque views of snow-capped mountains, the gallery offers a tranquil setting for art appreciation. Accessibility-wise, the gallery is well-designed with a step-free entrance, ample space for movement inside, and a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. The knowledgeable and friendly staff enhance the overall visitor experience. While parking is limited, there is a designated accessible spot near the entrance, and visitors can use a doorbell for assistance. The gallery also participates in various festivals and events in the Comox Valley, providing a deeper cultural experience for visitors.
