Since Tourism Vancouver Island was founded in 1962, the organization has pursued the vision of building Vancouver Island into an internationally recognized and preferred travel and getaway destination, and pursued the mission of increasing the economic benefits that flow from tourism to the Vancouver Island Region.
As an organization, we lead the industry’s recovery and work tirelessly to ensure the industry’s long term resilience, including through innovative initiatives like the Tourism Resiliency Program, industry-leading market research, and sustainable development goals that balance the health of our natural systems, the vibrancy of our communities and the prosperity of our businesses.
Committed To stewardship.
Tourism Vancouver Island is committed to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; and through partnerships with Indigenous tourism operators and Indigenous communities, we acknowledge the need for reconciliation, and support economic prosperity, and Indigenous land rights, for the First people of Vancouver Island, upon whose land we gratefully live, work and travel.
Together with our partners, we nurtured a fledgling tourism industry into an economic powerhouse that welcomed over 4.5 million guests in 2019. We know that the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on Vancouver Island’s visitor economy has been deep and that the Region’s 3,000+ tourism businesses are continuing to fight for their survival.
