Storm Riders: Session Taproom, Kitchen, and Spin

The Storm Riders series aims to celebrate the strength of our industry while highlighting some of the many ways businesses have overcome the challenges resulting from COVID-19. We are proud to showcase how the following businesses have adapted while celebrating the people who are at the heart of what we do. In this post, we hear from the team at Session Taproom, Kitchen + Spin in Campbell River.

Why do you do what you do?

Our mission from day one has been to bring something unique to Campbell River. To us, quality is most important.  Whether it be atmosphere, ingredients, experience, craft beer, local wines, spirits and other beverages, we strive to support local business as much as possible.

As members of the downtown BIA and board members on the Campbell River City of Commerce, we take pride in being part of our community and giving small business a voice is important to us. Campbell River’s population is changing and with younger people and families moving here from the cities people are looking for a little taste of what they might have found in those bigger communities.

We want to be a part of helping to grow Campbell River during these exciting times!

What is your hope for the future of our region?

We hope to continue to see growth in our community. We would love to see some younger Campbell Riverites run for council and other municipal positions. We hope our region continues to see more small businesses open their doors and get support from the city. It excites us to see the growth Campbell River has experienced in the last 5 years or so. More young families continue to find their way here from the city and bring with them energy and passion for local products and healthy lifestyles. As more and more people move to a “work from home” role, this growing demographic will surely be a huge contribution to our community.

What do you want people to know of your business?

We want people to know that at Session, we have something for everyone. Making customers feel welcome and comfortable is of the utmost importance to us.

We are so much more than just a Taproom or a Spin Studio. While the two sides play off each other nicely, neither side is exclusive. We want anybody and everybody to feel comfortable sharing our space regardless if they participate in our spin classes or not!

We want to share with people the value in supporting local. We know that the devil is in the details, and we put thought in every little thing we do.

In your own words, please share “Travel matters because … “

Travel Matters because It’s important for people to see and experience new things. It is such an integral part of life. Everything that is learned while travelling stays with you forever and is brought back and shared with others in the community.

Other than your own business, what are 3 other businesses in your community that visitors should experience.?

  1. Wei Wai Kum House of Treasures
  2. Bough and Antler
  3. The Island Grind

The spark to own/work in this business must motivate you each day. – what are some of your past experiences that have contributed to this spark.

We feel that we’ve always excelled at no matter what we’ve put our minds to. Nothing was ever been handed to us, so we don’t take anything for granted. Our spark was born from hard work and dedication, and a love for our community.
