Storm Riders: Kiwi Cove Lodge

The Storm Rider series aims to celebrate the strength of our industry while highlighting some of the many ways businesses have overcome the challenges resulting from COVID-19. We are proud to showcase how the following businesses have adapted while celebrating the people who are at the heart of what we do. In this post, we hear from Peggy Kolosoff  at Kiwi Cove Lodge in Ladysmith.

Why do you do what you do?

“When one door closes, build a new door”. Doug and Peggy were Commercial Salmon Fishers until 1997. The decline in fish stocks was affecting the viability of that livelihood. When looking for new opportunity, the entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and we found a new vision right in our local community.

What is your hope for the future of our region?

Our hope for the region is that the councils and land use planners allow and encourage more private owned campgrounds to be created.

What do you most want people to know about your business?

Starting up a business is a long tough journey. Loads of stressful red tape and unforeseen hurdles. For example in the early construction of our guest lodge, 9/11 happened. Would I do anything different? I have no regrets.
